A familiar face was back in the stands at Wednesday night’s Winnipeg Jets game versus the Ottawa Senators.

Second World War veteran Len "Kroppy" Kropioski made his return to the jumbotron, singing and saluting during the national anthem.

Fans welcomed Kroppy with a standing ovation, bringing the war veteran to tears, as he was chosen as the Jets fan winner of the night.

The 97-year-old season ticket holder has been a fixture at home games, driving in all the way from Kenora, ON.

The war veteran had been in hospital battling the flu since early February.

He will turn 98 in July.
