Winnipeg police are looking for a man who attacked a woman during an early evening walk Wednesday.

Police said a 40-year-old woman was walking around 5 p.m. on a footpath along Waterfront Drive and Provencher Boulevard when an unknown man confronted her from behind. The man took hold of the woman, forcing her to the ground.

Officials said the woman defended herself, at which time the suspect assaulted her in the upper and lower body. The man fled after the woman started screaming, which alerted people passing by.

The victim was left was various minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a man, approximately 40-years-old, who is aboriginal in appearance, five feet six inches (168 cm) tall with shoulder-length wavy hair and pockmarked face.

Police say the suspect was wearing a brown hoodie and black sweat pants with “Yellowknife” written in white print.
