A deep freeze has Winnipeggers finally feeling the winter chill.

CAA spokesperson Angèle Young said wait times for a boost are almost four hours.

She said it's important to remember to plug any cars in overnight, and reminded drivers to have an emergency kit in their vehicle.

An emergency kit should contain things to keep you warm, things to make you visible, and things to fix your car, Young said.

Kits could include blankets, a flare, food, water, and basic tools.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is also reminding people to keep an eye on their space heaters.

Space heaters can be a fire hazard when left unattended.

The WFPS said there should be a three foot radius around any space heater.

It said people should always turn pff a space heater when they leave a room, and should not run one over night.

The WFPS also said that older space heaters with an element can be a bigger risk. It said people should have those units checked regularly to ensure all parts are working.
