Bee keepers were buzzing at city hall Tuesday after Winnipeg's property and development committee approved beekeeping in the downtown.
Councillors on the committee also waived a $1,200 conditional-use fee in order to encourage more beekeepers to set up shop.
Operations will be limited to five hives and must have six-foot fences around them.
If the hives are on a rooftop, a fence is not required.
Councillors also discussed the possibility of allowing urban bee keeping across Winnipeg in the future.
