Students in the Pembina Trails School Division have been busy building and decorating small free libraries where people can choose to take a book or leave a book.

Tuesday the finishing touches were put on one of the libraries located at General Byng School in Fort Garry.

It’s being stocked with dozens of books to help promote summer reading.

“We need that accessibility,” said Heather Eby, educational media library consultant at PTSD. “Some of our students in the summertime are either far from a public library, or their parents are busy, they’re working. Of course technology is bringing kids a whole different way to connect but it’s always the print book they come back to.”

More little libraries are being set up outside a number of other schools before the end of the school year.
