Team Jennifer Jones will be honoured by the City of Winnipeg.
In an announcement live on CTV Morning Live Winnipeg on Tuesday, Mayor Sam Katz said a section of Regal Avenue near the St. Vital Curling Club will be re-named 'Honourary Team Jones Way'.
The golden girls of curling returned to Winnipeg Monday night after posting a flawless record en route to the gold medal in women’s curling in Sochi.
A boisterous crowd was on hand at the airport to greet Jones and her teammates Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer, Dawn McEwen and Kristin Wall.
“It’s so nice to be home and see everyone that’s supported us, shared in this with us, it’s incredible to see so many people here,” said Jones, “We say it is because of all of Winnipeg and Canada we were on top of the podium. We can’t thank everybody enough.”
Lawes said the welcome was amazing.
“To be back in Winnipeg, and have the support of everyone. Fantastic,” she said, “I was in tears coming down the escalator. It was awesome.”
Jones said the team has plans to catch up on some sleep over the next few days and said they will continue to soak up the moment.
