Police are investigating after two people were pepper sprayed Sunday in northwest Winnipeg.

The first incident happened in the 700 block of Sheppard Street, at around 9:20 p.m. Police said a man answered the doorbell at his home and was sprayed in the face with what is believed to be pepper spray. There were three kids under five years old inside the home at the time of the attack.

The victim couldn’t describe what his attacker looked like.

He and the kids were taken to hospital and released.

The second assault happened the same night at around 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue, not far from where the first attack took place.

A man in his 30s was in the parking lot of his apartment building when a man asked him for change. Police said the suspect pepper sprayed the victim in the face and attempted to further assault him.

However, the victim escaped into the apartment building and locked the doors.

The suspect in this incident is described by police as an Aboriginal man, about 20 to 30 years old, about five feet ten inches (177 centimetres) tall, wearing a black jacket with a hoodie and a neck warmer covering his face.

Investigators believe the same suspect is potentially linked to both incidents.
