December 1 marks World AIDS Day and officials in Manitoba will help raise awareness by illuminating the Manitoba legislative building.

The building will be flooded with red lights at 5:30 p.m. After the commemorative lighting, a multi-media community event, Bridging the Gap will take place. That event is at the University of Winnipeg’s Convocation Hall and runs from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30p.m. on Nov. 30.

Approximately 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV and AIDS, said officials.

In Manitoba, 80 people were diagnosed with HIV in 2011.
