A former Manitoba man convicted of animal abuse is once again being accused of horrific acts despite a ban from owning animals.

Walter Goba was charged and convicted of animal abuse. Part of his sentence included a 10-year prohibition from owning or caring for animals.

Goba is once again facing similar charges, but this time in Saskatchewan. They relate to an animal seizure five months ago near Yorkton.

The Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a report of possible abuse.

"We received the call in early December that there were some horses that were potentially in distress and we did have an animal protection officer attend,” said Kaley Pugh from the Saskatchewan SPCA.

RCMP also responded to the complaint and 11 horses were seized.

“There were horses seized on that first inspection because there were animals in critical distress," said Pugh.

The SPCA takes all cases seriously but admits there were in the dark over Goba's previous charges until they were well into this latest investigation.

“There isn’t a system of registration or tracking like that right now,” said Pugh. “And our primary work is responding to complaints or neglect.”

RCMP say they work closely with the SPCA on any matters related to animal abuse.

Walter Goba's next court appearance is May 20 in Yorkton.
