A massive and urgent search is continuing in western Manitoba for a toddler who's been missing since Tuesday evening.

Chase Martens, 2, was last seen playing in his family's yard north of Austin, Man.

He hasn't been seen since.

More than 300 volunteers are trying to find Martens.

Delphine Blair drove from the Brandon area to help.

"I hope they find him," said Blair. "We hope that he gets found I mean there's so many people you would think they would find him by now."

The RCMP said it's not for a lack of effort.

A massive ground and aerial search started Tuesday evening near the family's home, shortly after Martens was reported missing.

The search continued overnight and has been growing ever since.

"Our only priority right now is to find Chase," said RCMP Sgt. Bert Paquet. "Our search will expand as it's required to do so."

Sgt. Paquet said no more volunteers are needed. Instead he had a message for people who want to help.

"Pray," said Sgt. Paquet. "We have a lot of people here, we have hundreds of people assisting in our search either trained in this kind of investigation or activities or being monitored and supervised by people that are trained."

Several local fire departments are also pitching in.

Firefighter Cameron Campbell drove an hour from Alonsa, approximately 212 km northwest from Winnipeg, after getting the call.

He's hoping Martens is found safe.

"You always hope for the best but then there's always that thought in the back of your mind, right, who knows," said Campbell.

There are searchers driving all-terrain vehicles, people on horseback but mostly volunteers are on foot searching a large area around the family's rural property but still no sign of Chase.

"It's disheartening kind of," said volunteer Janet McGregor. "You don't see nothing. There's just nothing there."

The RCMP said investigators have spoken with Chase's parents and are asking the public for tips. Despite their efforts the little boy's whereabouts remains a mystery.
