People living near Henderson Highway will soon be able to get their Big Mac fix again.

Fire destroyed a McDonald’s restaurant at the Northdale Shopping Centre on Henderson Highway last April.

Owner Ryan McCullough remembers the day clearly; he was at the Osborne Street location when the fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m.

“I received a phone call that said, ‘You have to get here now, the restaurant’s on fire.’ And I actually followed the fire trucks there,” said McCullough. “That was a very sad day.”

On April 15, 2015, crews spent hours at the scene as strong winds fanned the flames, making the fire difficult to fight and put out.

The old restaurant was demolished and construction started on a new building at the same site.

Now, the restaurant is ready to open Friday at 5 a.m., with an additional 30 to 40 new employees.

“We’ve been through a bit of a rollercoaster,” said McCullough. “We are so excited to get back; we have approximately 35 to 37 employees returning from the original Northdale team."

The new McDonald’s also has some added features, including three large touch screens where customers can place their own order inside.
