A family that lost their nine-year-old daughter in a house fire on the Sandy Bay First Nation this month is getting a new home courtesy of a construction company owned by the Six Nation Indian Reserve in Ontario.

RJ Ecosafe Homes announced this week that they would begin a "humanitarian build," to provide an innovative fire-resistant home to the Richard family.

Hope Richards was killed in a house fire Feb.3 on the Sandy Bay First Nation.

Fire fighters got the call at about 3:30 a.m. Witnesses say it took just 15 minutes for the home to burn to the ground.

There were 12 people home at the time, and 11 managed to escape, but Hope was trapped in a bedroom and could not escape the flames.

"As a former fire fighter, I feel the family's loss for the loved one," CEO Dick Morrison said in a release.

"I assure the Sandy Bay Chief and Council that the necessary steps are being taken to replace the house which was lost with a new, safe and healthy home."

RJ Ecosafe Homes have also set-up a "Hope Richard Trust Fund."

Donations may be sent to the Hope Richard Trust Fund c/o RJ Ecosafe Homes, 2453 Third Line, Ohsweken, ON., N0A 1M0.
