A fire that killed two people in Point Douglas on Thursday has turned into a homicide investigation.

According to Winnipeg police, a fire broke out at a three-storey rooming house in the 100 block of Austin Street North around 1:40 a.m. Thursday.

Police said there were 15 people in the home when the fire broke out. Two people were pronounced dead on scene and several others were sent to hospital.

The investigation has concluded that the fire was deliberately set, police said.

The two victims are 51-year-old woman and 61-years-old man.
