Winnipeg mayor Brian Bowman met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Friday morning during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' 2016 conference and trade show.
Winnipeg is hosting the conference which runs until Sunday at the RBC Convention Centre.
During a brief photo opportunity with Bowman on Friday, Trudeau said infrastructure will be one of the major topics discussed at the conference.
Mayors of Canada's big cities met on Thursday and called on the federal government for more flexible infrastructure funding to cover a wider range of projects.
Trudeau is scheduled to meet with Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister Friday afternoon.
Trudeau also delivered opening remarks to the 1600 delegates at the FCM conference.
Trudeau spoke about the federal government's plan to invest $120 billion in infrastructure over the next 10 years.
"People need better roads and highways so they can spend more time with their families and less time stuck in traffic," Trudeau told delegates.
Trudeau said projects that qualify for the first phase of funding include public transit, green and social infrastructure and water and waste-water projects.
He told delegates the federal government will work closely with municipalities and give communities the ability to make decisions on how infrastructure dollars are best spent.
Trudeau said the second phase of the government's infrastructure plan will be released next year.
