Replica medals celebrating Canada's most decorated aboriginal soldier have been recovered, after being stolen from a granite monument.

On Monday, vandal's had taken the replica medals from a monument honouring Sgt. Tommy Prince.

Thursday someone found them in the Sgt. Tommy Prince Memorial Park, where the monument sits and turned them over to police.

Detectives are continuing with their investigation to find the culprits.

The park named for the heroic soldier is near Selkirk Avenue. It opened last year.

Prince was from the Brokenhead First Nation. He volunteered for duty at the outset of the Second World War and also served two tours of duty in the Korean War, earning 11 medals in the process.
