Die-hard U2 fans are hitting the pavement for their favorite rock band this weekend, lining up two days in advance and sleeping on the sidewalks to reserve a good spot for Sunday's concert.
"They numbered me with the sharpie marker and I was like whoo hoo!" said Tri Cao who managed to be the first person in line for the first come, first serve spots on the floor of Canad Inns Stadium. "I'm all excited."
"I'm just a huge U2 fan and I want to get as close to the band as I possibly can," said John Fegyverneki who held the number 22 spot.
While some lined up to see the band for their first time others say the show is worth seeing multiple times.
"I've seen them 25 times in this tour so far," said Joe Ahorro who is third in line. "I have a very generous boss."
Winnipeg is the first Canadian stop on U2's 360-degree World Tour, which sports a cylindrical video screen and a stage 50 metres above the ground – which took 150 trucks and 200 people six days to set up.
"Every stage has a wow factor," said Jake Berry, Production Director for the concert. "Ours just lasts a little longer."
"One of the original ideas of this show was make the stage so big the stadium actually feels small," said Tour Director Craig Evans.
Evans says every one of the 50 thousand ticketholders will have the best seat in the house, including the crew who was hired to work the show.
"It's neat. This doesn't happen all the time, once in a life time," said local crew member Kelly Morris. "The biggest stage in the world, yeah, it's awesome."
