Ukrainians in Manitoba are inviting people to join in a memorial service Sunday night for the victims of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 that was shot down over Ukraine.

On Thursday, the same day of the plane crash, people placed candles on the steps of the Legislative Building in memory of the 298 people who died.

At around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a service will be will help at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 250 Jefferson Ave.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is organizing the memorial.

It says all are welcome to “honour the memory of the victims of this hideous crime.”

The congress says similar vigils and services are being held all across North America.
