The province is kicking in more than $16 million to overhaul campgrounds and other infrastructure in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
The money will be spread over 28 projects in the park, including repairing roads, increasing parking space, electrifying campgrounds and building a new waste water treatment facility at West Hawk/Falcon and Brereton.
The park gets more than 1.4 million visits a year, Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh said in a news release.
"The many capital investments we are making mean the park will remain one of the province's best and ensure we continue to protect our lakes and rivers, especially Lake Winnipeg," he said.
Projects to be funded include one kilometer of repaved road, two new boat ramps with parking for up to 300 cars and boat trailers, public art inspired by the park’s history, improvements to campground drinking water and washrooms, and improving the Falcon Lake Mall and West Hawk Marina.
The money is being spent as part of a $100 million strategy to upgrade park infrastructure in Manitoba by 2020.
