WINNIPEG - A teaching assistant at a Winnipeg high school faces charges following what investigators say was an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

Police allege that between March and October of last year the female assistant supplied the youth with drugs and alcohol on several occasions.

They say the meetings increased over time and resulted in sexual contact on numerous occasions.

The student eventually revealed the relationship and police began an investigation.

Sheryl Ann Dyck, who is 42, is charged with sexual exploitation, supplying liquor to a minor and administering a substance with the intent to have illicit sex.

At the time of her arrest on Dec. 11, she was released on a promise to appear in court.
