The province and the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation announced a program to help disadvantaged kids has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Officials announced Thursday that proceeds from the sale of 27,000 specialty Winnipeg Jets licence plates will go towards registered children’s charities. Premier Greg Selinger made the announcement with foundation executive director Dwayne Green.

Selinger said the specialty licence plate program has raised over $800,000 since Manitoba Public Insurance began administering it a year ago. The plates are sold at Autopac agents across the province and $30 from each plate sale goes to charity.
