The latest crime numbers might be reassuring to many Manitobans.

Statistics Canada said the crime rate dropped in this province by 11 per cent in 2013. Manitoba was also tied for the largest decrease in the severity of crimes among provinces.

Winnipeg saw a 16 per cent decline in the crime. That number is similar to one provided by the Winnipeg Police Service this week.

But the news isn’t all good. Winnipeg reports the highest severity rate in Canada when it comes to violent crimes and Manitoba leads the nation among provinces in the homicide rate category.
