Winnipeg police urged drivers Monday not to leave unattended vehicles with keys inside after dozens of thefts were reported last month.

In December, 35 vehicles left running or with keys left in them when they were stolen, said police.

“The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting vehicle owners to never leave their vehicles unattended, running or not, for any length of time while the keys are in the ignition,” said police. “Always ensure that vehicles keys are secure and don’t leave spare keys hidden within the vehicle.”

In total, 115 vehicles were stolen and 40 attempted thefts were reported in December in Winnipeg.
