A likely long shot to become mayor of Winnipeg, Michel Fillion might be the most colourful candidate in the race.
Fillion, a booking agent for exotic dancers, has done a lot of unorthodox measures to draw attention to his campaign.
He wore a hard hat and construction vest to Monday’s night’s infrastructure debate, sold lemonade on the street. He has YouGube videos containing policies and lip-syncing performances and he drenched himself in ice water for the ALS ice bucket challenge at city hall.
Fillion said he is doing a lot of this to lighten the mood of the campaign, while distinguishing himself from the other six candidates.
He doesn’t shy away from answering questions about policy. Fillion said to fix roads, he would raise property tax by 10 per cent over two years while taxing people who live outside of Winnipeg but work inside the Perimeter Highway.
The businessman also said he would eliminate business taxes in four years if elected mayor.
