Hot and dry weather conditions are raising concerns that more forest first could start in northeast Manitoba.

The Fire Program of Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship issued a warning on Monday, saying thundershowers and high winds in the region could ignite more fires.

There are currently 32 fires burning. Aircraft, crews and equipment have been positioned to help deal with new fires. Emergency crews that were deployed to help with flooding in the western part of the province have been reassigned to help with the fires.

Winnipeggers will likely see and smell smoke as it blows south across the province.

There have been 175 fires to date. The average for this date is 263.
