Police have arrested and charged five people following the discovery of a man’s body in a West End dumpster in Winnipeg.

Police said Garnet Walter Williams, who was found dead in a dumpster in early August, was seriously assaulted and confined for a period of time before he died.

“Early stages of the investigation suggested his death was suspicious in nature,” said police in a release on Saturday afternoon.

Williams was with a group of individuals in a suite in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue on July 31, according to information police gathered during the investigation.

Police allege a dispute broke out, and the group seriously assaulted Williams.

“After Williams succumbed to his injuries and several days past, the deceased was taken and disposed of inside a nearby garbage container,” said police.

On Friday, police arrested several individuals.

Jeremy Lee Allen, 27, of Winnipeg, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Miranda Nancy Leclaire, 32, and Lyle Barrow, 30, both of Winnipeg, were charged with manslaughter.

Police said Jennifer Kelly Hall, 25, and a 56-year-old man, both of Winnipeg, were previously arrested and charged with indignity to a human body.

Police said all individuals arrested, excluding the 56-year-old man, were remanded into custody.
