The mother of a man who died by suicide after being discharged from hospital in October 2015 is rallying for more support for mental illness from the province.

Thirty-three year-old Reid Bricker’s remains were found near Selkirk in June of this year.

Now, Bonnie Bricker is holding the rally to call for on the government to make changes. She wants to make sure what happened to her son is not repeated.

“I could in fact just shrug my shoulders and say, ‘I lost this fight, I lost my son, I’m going to curl into my own life and ignore everybody else,’” she said on Thursday. “I don’t have to keep on fighting this fight, but I need some reason to keep going.”

The rally will be held at the Manitoba Legislature on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

“We need more funding allocated to mental health and addictions issues. A mental illness is "not visible" and since many of these people cannot advocate for themselves they continue to suffer,” organizers said in release.
