Officers in Toronto are investigating the murder of a 23-year-old woman from Winnipeg.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Nov. 29, officers were called to the industrial area of Unwin Avenue and Leslie Street in Toronto.

An injured woman was found and was rushed to hospital, where she later died. Police don't yet know if she was shot in the Unwin and Leslie location where she was found, or if her body was later dumped there. 

Police identified the victim as Leanne Freeman, 23, from Winnipeg.

An autopsy was completed on Tuesday and determined cause of death to be a gunshot wound.

Freeman's relatives told CTV News they are devastated.

They said she was living in Toronto but returned to Winnipeg for a quick visit last month.

Her cousin told CTV the family doesn't yet know much about what happened.
