Power has been restored to the city's northeast after an outage this morning.

The power was out in a large area of Winnipeg, from Larson Ave. to the Perimeter Highway and from Lagimodiere Blvd. to the Red River, beginning at about  6:50 this morning.

Manitoba Hydro officials say it was caused by a pole-top fire, which can occur in damp conditions.

About 18,000 customers were without power and 12,000 had power restored within five minutes, said Hydro.

Hydro crews restored power to the remaining customers about an hour and a half later, said officials.
