A late night explosion in a camper outside of a home along the 1000 block of Alfred Avenue in Winnipeg has sent one man to hospital.

Police say around 10 p.m. Thursday night a man in his 50s was in a camper when the propane tank exploded.

The explosion damaged the camper and injured the man. He was taken to hospital in stable condition and has since been released.

It is not known how the explosion occurred and charges are not being laid. Police are saying the explosion was accidental.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service has tips on how you can prevent a similar accident.

-Transport propane tanks in an upright position.

-Check your barbecue and RV connection valves for leaks using soapy water. If the water bubbles you have a leak.

-Keep your propane barbecue outside, in a well ventilated and secure area. Do not store it in the garage.

-Have your tank tested and requalified after ten years.
