The Manitoba government released details on wind warnings Thursday afternoon.

The province said “forecast high winds developing today have resulted in a severe wind effect warning for the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg and a moderate warning for Lake Manitoba.”

Winds are expected to reach up to 55 km/h starting later Thursday and calming Friday afternoon.

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation's hydrologic forecasting centre said combined wind speed and wave action could raise levels by as much as five feet or more.

The province urged property owners to take precautions.
