Firefighters battled a blaze in Selkirk after an area fire spread to an auto scrap yard Saturday evening.

Piles of scrap materials were still burning around 7 p.m. Saturday. Car seats and liners contributed to a massive fire that sent fumes from burning plastic and material into the air.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner was on scene and said they might call in more resources.

The source of the fire was unknown, but fire officials said they believe it spread from a fire that was brought under control earlier in the day and later reignited.

High winds and dry conditions are considered a factor, fire officials said.
