A suspect assaulted a 77-year-old woman, took her purse and then stole her vehicle in Winnipeg on March 20, said police.

Officers responded shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday to the 600 block of Elgin Avenue.

The 77-year-old victim had returned home and parked her vehicle. As she was leaving the garage, an unknown male assaulted her, stole her purse and fled in her vehicle.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was later located abandoned in the area of Arlington Street and Magnus Avenue.

The suspect is described as white, about five feet three inches to five feet five inches tall (162 cm – 168 cm), approximately 20 years old with darker skin and a clean-shaven face. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a navy or black jacket and a black baseball hat with red trim around the brim.
