Soccer enthusiasts in Winnipeg will have to wait a little bit longer before hitting the pitch. Although the spring sunshine and warm temperatures have finally arrived, many fields are still soggy and melting.
The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association kicked off its outdoor season on Friday on the artificial turf at Waverley Soccer Complex.
The wet conditions are expected to delay the use of natural grass fields for at least another two weeks. The association plans to reschedule cancelled games, but may have to shorten the season.
The association is hoping sun and wind will dry up the fields. In the meantime, it asks people to be careful on the wet fields because they can be easily damaged in their current condition.
