Fire crews were still on scene in the Assiniboine Forest Friday afternoon, extinguishing hot spots in a blaze that lasted two days.
Officials believe the fire started Thursday afternoon at Woodview Bay off of Elmhurst Road in Charleswood.
It spread quickly, covering a wide swath of land in the forest, officials said.
Extinguishing the fire was challenging, officials said, because it spread over such a large area and burnt in hard-to-access spots, said officials.
Crews ran a fire hose through trails in the park in an attempt to extinguish the fire.
Officials said the cold weather and moisture were helping keep the blaze under control.
Three crews remained on scene late Friday afternoon to douse hot spots.
