Winnipeg bus riders may see their commutes lengthened in the coming days with drivers and maintenance workers at odds with their employer.

Starting Monday, transit drivers and maintenance workers will refuse overtime. As a result, the city has warned commuters to be prepared for possible service disruptions, including late or cancelled buses on a number of routes across Winnipeg.

It's the latest development after transit union workers voted to reject a contract offer last Friday.

Negotiations are set to resume Monday, and the city is optimistic a settlement can be reached with the union, which hasn't been on strike since 1976.
