A West Kildonan man says the city lost his car after towing it during a residential parking ban.

Kristjan Thompson said he didn’t “Know His Zone,” and parked his car in a no parking zone over the weekend.

It was towed, but when he called 311 to find out where, he said they couldn’t tell him.

“They told me that they had a record of my car being towed, but that they didn’t know where my car was,” said Thompson.

Thompson said he was told to contact the towing company, Dr. Hook.

He said they also had record of his car being towed, but no record of where it was dropped.

Thompson said 311 told him to look for his car in a three to five block radius around his house.

When he still couldn’t find his vehicle, he expanded his search area.

Thompson drove his wife’s car across West Kildonan from the Red River to McPhillips with no luck.

“Not to know which direction the car is parked, and for the city not to know is completely ridiculous,” said Thompson.

Three days after his car was towed, he said he got a call.

Thompson’s car was found seven streets away on Hartford Avenue.

“I’m just happy my car was found. All in all it was a positive outcome. It’s just too bad I had to wait three days,” he said.

The city called Thompson’s case unusual.

It says there have been cases where it took time to find a towed vehicle, but normal response time to locate a car is twenty minutes.

The city says it’s looking into Thompson’s case.

Dr. Hook Towing did not respond to a request for comment.
