Winnipeg’s largest school division voted to proceed with a ban on electronic cigarettes.

Monday night, the Winnipeg School Division board voted unanimously to ban e-cigarettes on all school property.

Outgoing trustee Anthony Ramos proposed the ban and said it sends a message to students.

"The types of devices, although, albeit are accessible, there's a time and place and it's not in school and it's not on school grounds, and neither is it for any of the adults in our community," said Ramos after his motion passed.

With no clear policy in Canada to regulate their use, CTV was told some Winnipeg teachers allow students to use the battery-powered vaping devises in class.

After the October 22 civic election, the division’s new board will continue to develop its e-cigarette policy.
