Numerous collisions were reported across southern Manitoba Thursday as a blast of winter wreaked havoc on provincial highways.

The weather is being blamed for an ambulance rollover early Thursday morning.

One patient and four other occupants were inside the ambulance when the unit left the highway and rolled just west of of Elie, MB on the Trans-Canada Highway.

A spokesperson for Prairie Mountain Health said slippery road conditions and extreme wind gusts are to blame.

The health region said it will not be releasing any specific details regarding any injuries.

RCMP were on scene and are investigating the incident.

Prairie Mountain Health and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services said each organization will also be internally investigating the incident.

The Trans-Canada was closed between Headingley and Portage la Prairie at around noon Thursday.
