The "improper disposal of smoking material" started the fatal house fire that claimed the life of 35-year-old Helen Bergen Dec.20.
The Fire Commissioner's Office released the results of their investigation Tuesday morning, hours before the woman's funeral.
The ceremony is being held at the Windsor Park United Church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
Bergen died in hospital hours after firefighters pulled her from the blaze at her Stewart Street home in West Winnipeg.
Her husband Brian was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Their two daughters were away at a sleepover at the time of the fire.
The house was completely destroyed.
Since the incident donations for the family have been pouring in from around the city and province.
A trust fund has also been set up for the girls' educations.
Donations can be made at any Crosstown Civic Credit Union.
