CTV's Laura Lowe and local media personality Ace Burpee are hosting the Folklorama Kick-off at The Forks July 31.

The kickoff show begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m.

The free family-friendly event features an ethnic market presented by MTS, a Folklorama ambassador parade and a live mainstage show with world class cultural entertainment from international and local performing groups.

"Folklorama Kick-off is an excellent sample of what to expect at the pavilions... There's lively, world class entertainment and fun for the whole family," says Ron Gauthier, Executive Director.

Greg Selinger and Sam Katz will be in attendance at the kickoff event to offer greetings to festival-goers.

Folklorama is the world's largest and longest-running multicultural festival. It is presented by Manitoba Lotteries and runs from Aug. 1 to 14.


The Folklorama Kick-off entertainment line-up includes:

  • Argentina Tango Pavilion Performers

  • All the way from Mexico, Ballet Folklórico de Sinaloa

  • Russian folk band Limpopo with dance duo Joc

  • All the way from Chile, Ballet Folklórico Arcoiris de Chile

  • Celtic rock band Dust Rhinos

  • Latin pop sensation William Leyva

  • Brazilian ensemble Viva Capoeira
