Watercraft inspection stations with decontamination units targeting zebra mussels will be available for boaters from Saturday, July 18 to Monday, July 20.

A watercraft inspection team will be on the water between Winnipeg Beach and Grand Beach on the south basin of Lake Winnipeg.

The transporting and possession of zebra mussels is illegal in Manitoba. Parts of the south basin of Lake Winnipeg and the Manitoba portion of the Red River contain these invasive species.

People are asked to clean and remove all visible aquatic plants, invasive species or mud from their watercrafts and related water equipment.

For more information on how to prevent contamination or to report zebra mussels or any other aquatic invasive species, head to the Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship website.
