Negotiations were underway Friday to get Winnipeg a new football stadium - and it might not be at Polo Park.

There is speculation it could be built in an area near Waterfront Drive. Another location being considered is across the street from the Convention Centre.

Premier Gary Doer confirmed discussions are underway, but says nothing has been decided. Local businessman David Asper wants to build a $120 million stadium, with $80 million coming from the federal and provincial governments.

Senior Manitoba cabinet minister Vic Toews says he excited by the new proposals because they involve redevelopment plans. But the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says the money should be given back to taxpayers instead.
