Relatives of four people killed in Tuesday night's fire on Woodlark Place are reeling with grief.

Hamid Farooq's two daughters, wife and mother died following a blaze that started at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 in their West Kildonan home in Winnipeg.

He was at work at the time of the fire.

His youngest daughter, four-month-old Hoorya, is still in hospital in critical condition.

Farooq's brother-in-law, Khalid Mahmood, said Farooq hasn't left her side and has barely slept.

Neighbours said the family moved to Canada in 2007 from Pakistan.

Mahmood conveyed words from Farooq on Thursday.

"I am putting my trust in God almighty – that he will see me and my family through the difficult time."

Mahmood, who made the trip from Cornwall, Ont. to Winnipeg, said Hoorya is on life support and is suffering from brain damage, but still he and his family are hoping for a miracle.

"We are sitting there - we are praying, hoping God do something," he said.

The Muslim community has been pulling together to help.

"The amount of emails, phone calls and donations coming in have really overwhelmed us," said Shahina Siddiqui from the Islamic Social Services Association

The association has been accepting donations and will be opening a trust fund - all in an effort to help the family send the bodies back to Pakistan for burial. Calls can be made to 204-944-1560 for more information. Prayers and messages can also be sent to info@issaservices.com

The association said transporting four bodies to Pakistan costs about $60,000.

"Of course the family that's back home is also hurting and is in a lot of pain and the wish is that the funerals take place there,' said Siddiqui.

The association also said it will hold a workshop about fire safety and prevention for families new to Canada, with help from Winnipeg police and fire officials.

The funerals in Pakistan likely won't be held for at least another 10 to 12 days. A memorial will also be held in Winnipeg, but a date has not yet been set for that.

The cause of the fatal fire remains under investigation.
