Officers continue to look for a gunman after Jeffrey Lau, 23, was killed Thursday morning when a suspect walked into the Salisbury House on Pembina Highway at Stafford Street and opened fire.

Police said two customers who were in the restaurant when the gunman started shooting fled the scene before officers could arrive. They’re now asking those two people to contact police to aid in the investigation.

“We want to make every effort to identify those individuals because they may possess additional information with respect to how things played out during the early morning hours,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen from Winnipeg police.

Officers shut down multiple streets in the area after the shooting on Sept. 27 and police searched for the shooter and any evidence left behind.

A gun and discarded clothes were discovered near the shooting scene.

Along with Lau, a 22-year-old man was shot. He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable, said police.

Lau’s brother said his sibling had a big heart. He also said Jeffrey was the best big brother.

Lau’s mother said the family is struggling to cope with the news of his death.

Relatives also said the gunman targeted the wrong person.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
