Theodore Herntier, 45, took the stand in his own defence Thursday for the 2004 murder of David Boulanger, also known as Divas B.

Boulanger, a transgender sex trade worker, was found dead and wrapped in plastic in Nov. 3, 2004 near a truck stop close to Portage la Prairie.

While on the stand, Herntier was asked if he killed Boulanger.

“I never did that…I am not a violent person," Herntier testified.

He was also asked about a previous witness who said Herntier admitted to him: “that he killed somebody and they were scum and wouldn’t be missed.”

Herntier testified he never said that.

He said that on Sept. 30, 2004 he was driving his truck to Swan River when he got a flat tire at 8:30 p.m.

Herntier testified he pulled over onto a service road past a truck stop close to Portage la Prairie, which is where he said he called multiple friends for help.

He said he was there until 11:30 p.m., when his niece came to pick him up and take him back to Winnipeg.

The murder remained unsolved for six years, until RCMP got a break in the case and arrested Herntier in Saskatchewan.

He's charged with second-degree murder.

The trial continues Friday.
