Officers in Lethbridge, Alta. searched a south-side apartment and mailbox for suspicious packages after receiving a tip that a man in that city may have been targeted.
Lethbridge police confirmed the investigation started after they were contacted by Winnipeg police in connection with the letter-bombing case that severely injured Manitoba lawyer Maria Mitousis.
Guido Amsel has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault in relation to that blast.
Lethbridge police said the investigation in Alberta centred on whether packages were sent to other people, including a relative of Amsel’s who lives in that province.
After evacuating a building on Palm Road South and checking a Canada Post mailbox along the northeast corner of 34 Street, Lethbridge police found no signs of suspicious packages.
“There is no evidence to suggest any ongoing risk to the public and the (Lethbridge Regional Police Service) investigation has been concluded,” police said in a statement.
