The federal NDP have a new candidate for Winnipeg's Elmwood-Transcona riding.
Long time MLA Jim Maloway got the nod on the second ballot at a party nomination meeting Sunday night.
Maloway is replacing another long time politician. MP Bill Blaikie is retiring after more than 30 years in politics.
He is moving into a new career teaching religious studies at the University of Winnipeg.
Maloway will face Winnipeg Jets legend Thomas Steen. Steen was nominated the new conservative candidate in the riding Saturday.
Maloway's departure from the Manitoba Legislature means Premier Gary Doer will have to call a provincial by-election in provincial riding of Elmwood.
There is no word yet on when that will be.
