The man accused in the death and dismemberment of Robin Greene five-years-ago took the stand in his own defence on Wednesday.
He remembers almost everything, just not the most important details. Sydney Teerhuis testifies that he just can't recall the killing.
Sydney Teerhuis told the jury he blacked out that day in July 2003.
He says he doesn't know how Robin Greene ended up mutilated in a hotel suite bathtub.
What he does remember, is meeting up with the victim at the Woodbine Hotel.
Teerhuis described how the two men went on a drinking bender ending up in his suite at the Royal Albert Hotel.
He got high on cocaine and other drugs, had sex with Greene a few times and took some nude pictures of the victim.
Eventually the two fell asleep. Teerhuis told the jury he woke up about seven-hours later to a sickening smell in the suite.
"I entered the bathroom and looked over to the bathtub and he was deceased, he was dismembered. I threw up into the toilet because of what I had seen," said Teerhuis.
Teerhuis then walked to the Remand Centre thinking it was a police station.
Staff called 911. Teerhuis admits to telling the 911 operator "think I killed someone."
While in jail, Teerhuis wrote letters about the killing to a Winnipeg writer who promised him a book deal.
Teerhuis now says the gory letters were made up.
"I had no one to talk to. I was locked up 24-hours-a-day. I guess in a sick way it was entertainment for me," explained Teerhuis.
Teerhuis testified he got the killing details from jail library books, true crime stories of serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer but the crown argued many of the letters details, things like blood splatter matched the actual crime scene, and are things only the real killer would know.
