The killing of Robert Greene is something the accused admitted to just a day after the killing in July 2003.
Robin Greene was stabbed 68 times, his body cut up in eight pieces, and the body parts neatly stacked in the bathtub of a room at the Royal Albert Hotel.
The suite was being rented by Sydney Teerhuis.
Court heard, the previous day, Greene met Teerhuis over drinks at the Woodbine Hotel, then went back to Teerhuis' suite to have sex, and that's where Greene was killed.
Testimony suggests Teerhuis may have had no idea the murder even happened.
Court was told Teerhuis walked into the Remand Centre the following day, thinking it was a police station.
He told a corrections worker that he had been drinking, blacked out, and that when he awoke, the body was chopped up in his tub back in his hotel room."
That guard told him to call the police communications centre and wait for officers to arrive.
The operator who took that call testified that someone identifying himself as Sydney Teerhuis said he had killed somebody and went on to say that Teerhuis said he chopped up a person and put him in the bathtub.
But she too told the jury that Teerhuis indicated he had blacked out.
