The Manitoba government is giving police more powers to search for missing persons.

A bill introduced in the legislature today would give police faster access to cellphone and financial records and more in certain cases.

Right now, police can get those records if they believe a crime has occurred.

The bill would let police apply for a court order to get the records quickly if the missing person's safety is believed to be at risk.

Attorney General Andrew Swan says the proposed law would help family members more quickly locate missing loved ones.
